What God taught me about building a business from the ground up

This isn't the version of the story where I list the milestones first. This is the part that made all of it possible.

"Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established." — Proverbs 16:3

There's a version of my story where I lead with the business milestones. The LLC. The first commercial contract. The team. The systems. The growth.

But that version leaves out the most important part — the part that made all of it possible. And that's what I want to talk about today.

Because if you're building something right now — a business, a life, a family, a future — and it feels hard and uncertain and sometimes like you're the only one who believes in what you're doing: this one is for you.

"Necessity is one of the most honest places a business can be born. It means you're not doing it for show — you're doing it because it has to work."

It started with a need, not a plan

I didn't start Rooted Home & Office Management because I had a perfectly crafted business plan. I started because I needed to provide — and I decided to build something that was mine.

But necessity alone doesn't sustain you when the work is hard and the growth is slow and the doubt gets loud. Faith does.

Proverbs 16:3 changed how I work

For a long time I thought "committing my work" meant praying over my business and then hustling as hard as I could, hoping God would bless the effort. He does honor effort — don't get me wrong.

But I've learned that committing your work to the Lord also means releasing control over the outcome. It means doing the next right thing with integrity and trusting that the establishment of your plans is His job, not yours.

That shift — from striving to trusting — changed how I lead. How I treat my team. How I show up for clients. How I handle the hard days.

Faith doesn't make the hard parts go away

I've had days where the business felt like it was held together with prayer and duct tape. Staffing challenges. Difficult clients. Cash flow that made me question every decision. Mornings where I sat with my Bible and coffee and asked God what I was even doing.

And the answer every time was the same: Keep going. Do the next thing. Trust the process.

Not because it was all figured out. But because the vision was real, the work was good, and the people I was serving needed what I was building.

"Faith in business doesn't mean you never doubt. It means you keep moving anyway."

Building something Rooted means building something that lasts

The name isn't an accident.

Rooted. As in grounded. As in connected to something deeper than profit margins and client counts. As in — when the storms come (and they will), you don't get knocked over because what you've built has roots.

Faith

The foundation everything else is built on. When the plan falls apart, faith is what keeps you moving.

Family

The reason behind the work. Every decision runs through this filter first.

Purpose

Creating jobs, building dignity, investing in community — not just cleaning spaces.

Legacy

Modeling for my children what it looks like to build something from nothing.

What I want you to take from this

If you're an entrepreneur, especially one who is faith-driven and purpose-led, hear this:

You don't have to choose between building a great business and staying rooted in who you are.

Your values are your competitive advantage. The authenticity that comes from building something you genuinely believe in — clients feel that. Employees feel that. The community feels that. Build it that way. Don't apologize for it.

"A business built on faith isn't fragile. It's the most durable thing you can build."

"For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." — Ephesians 2:10

Faith-based. Woman-owned. Community-focused.

At Rooted Home & Office Management, we believe we're not just cleaning homes — we're creating opportunities, serving families, and building something that lasts. As a faith-driven, woman-owned business serving Stafford, Fredericksburg, and Spotsylvania, our purpose runs deeper than the work.
